Bringing Okonomiyaki to the World!

New York City is a place that celebrates the fact that you can enjoy food from all over the world. Japanese cuisine is no exception, and many types of Japanese food such as sushi and ramen play a central role in the New York restaurant scene. 

However, there are many Japanese dishes that as of yet are not as well known, and the okonomiyaki we make is one of them. It is commonly eaten in Japan, but here in New York there are still few places where you can find okonomiyaki. 

Within Japanese cuisine, okonomiyaki is known as a delicious dish packed with vegetables. The main vegetable is cabbage, but you are free to add any other vegetables you like, as well as meat or fish. Thanks to this wide array of options, okonomiyaki is a truly versatile food. 

Over the past decade, OCONOMI has been offering okonomiyaki to New Yorkers at street fairs, food festivals and other events. But due to the pandemic in 2020, all outdoor events came to a halt. We had been able to introduce okonomiyaki to many people, but at that time this valuable opportunity was lost. 

Despite this roadblock, we haven’t stopped because we believe in our mission of continuing to introduce okonomiyaki in New York.  We are participating in as many food events as possible. We do this with the hope of having the greatest number of people try this amazing dish.   

Although people have differences such as nationality, ethnicity, age and gender, we are united by the commonality that we can’t live without eating. Tasty food not only satisfies our stomachs, but also makes us feel happy. Through our okonomiyaki, we strive to contribute in our own small way to the creation of a New York food community which allows us to live happy, fun and harmonious lives via what we eat.
